The Most Useful Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box for Cats

The Most Useful Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box for Cats

I Love My Cat, But…

Today we’re going to review the Litter Robot III Open Air from auto pets and it’s a litter box pretty much. I never thought I’d be reviewing a litter box on this blog, to be honest, but the moment I caught wind of it being a cat owner myself, I could not pass up the opportunity to take a look at it. it’s basically supposed to be the greatest automated self-cleaning litter box on the market right now and for 500 US dollars, it damn well better be. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my two cats to death, they’re soft, sweet and cuddly but they also poop a lot and they’re a lot to clean up after. Especially if you have two of them and I think most cat owners would agree with me that cleaning out the litter box is the worst parts of owning a cat. This product aims to take away the hassle of cat ownership. So we’re gonna be taking a look at it today and I’m super excited.

let’s first talk about this product and just sort of what it looks like. I mean it looks like kind of looks like Kenny from South Park, every time I look at it that’s what I think of so it’s got this giant globe, we’ll call it the globe, and the sort of plastic bonnet that goes over. It’s pretty much full plastic construction, very sturdy though. Now obviously the globe is where you would put the litter and where the cat would do is business and we’ll discuss how that works in just a moment, but the inside here at least for the bottom half where the litter would go is lined with a really solid rubber. It’s very high quality, super durable easy to clean and it just seems like it’s built to last.

Automatic self-cleaning-litter box for cats controls

Additionally, Litter Robot III Open Air has got some buttons here and some LED indicators in front of the globe is a removable rubber mat that’s used to catch any litter that your cats may kick out whenever they leave the globe. but it’s pretty small and it’s probably not going to catch everything I would imagine, so you might want to invest in a larger mat that you place in front of it just to ensure that you catch everything. Now you can see here the mat actually sits on top of a handle that allows you to pull out this removable tray, which gives you access to a lined baggie where all of the poops and other clumped bits fall into after a cleaning cycle has taken place.

How Litter Robot III Open Air Works?

In order to show you guys how all that crap gets to the bottom of this thing, in the first place, we should probably talk about how the heck this thing works. So for starters, you need to fill it up with litter all right and you need to use a clumping litter, it can’t be purely absorbent. Clumping is essential for this product to work. You can use a bead or crystallized litter that’s totally fine as long as it’s fine enough in order to pass through the internal mesh screen. After you pour the litter up to the fill line and turn the unit on you’re pretty much ready to go. At that point, there’s a cat sensor that will detect when a cat is inside of the globe and as soon as your cat leaves the globe after he’s done doing his business, there will be a short wait period or a wait time before of the unit starts its self-cleaning cycle. At that point, the entire globe starts to rotate slowly and it does emit a low humming noise while it does this, however, it’s very quiet and I can’t imagine most cats would be bothered by it or scared of it unless they’re super timid or something like that. And then as it continues spinning it eventually sifts out all of the clumps and it separates the clumps with this internal mesh screen from all the litter and then at that point the clumps get dumped through the poop chute, is what I suppose I would call it and then it gets all trapped into the bottom tray here that we showed earlier. Afterward, the globe starts to rotate back to its original position and it actually overshoots its home point for a moment and that’s just so that it can return the litter bed back to a very flat state, so that when your cat jumps in there next time that’s not all lopsided. One of these cleaning cycles takes about two and a half minutes to fully complete and then it’s ready to go again. I should also mention that if a cat tries to jump into the dome while the cycle is in progress, the cat sensor will pick it up and it’ll immediately stop until the cat leaves.

Circling Back To The Disposal

The manual suggests replacing the bag in the tray once a week if you have one cat or twice a week if you have two cats, so it’s actually not too bad. Removal of the bag is super easy, basically just take the bag out and it sits it’s good to go. It’s really easy to replace the bags as well. It latches on to the four plastic tabs, you can buy more bags from auto pets, if you like or you can just buy your 10 to 13 gallon trash bags at the store that might be cheaper. Now one small shortcoming that I haven’t experienced myself yet because I haven’t really used this with my cats, but I have seen in other reviews is that because the poop chute is sort of located to the left of the unit anytime this thing gets really full it’ll start piling up specifically on the left side of the tray. Which means it could get pretty filled up when it’s not actually full, so maybe every once in a while you might have to take the tray out sort of do this a little bit and flatten out the level of of crap in here before putting it back in. that’ll give you a little bit more time before you have to fully replace it.

I should also mention the unit features a handy LED indicator letting you know when the trash bag is full and needs replacing. But moving on to some extra features, let’s say you’re not too privy with the whole automated system here and you just wanted to run the clean cycle manually. You can easily do that, basically you would just turn the unit off and any time you notice that your cat has left the special present inside for you, you basically just turn it on and it will automatically do a single cleaning cycle. Now for all of you cat owners out there who have to have the litter box in your bedroom, first off my condolences and you probably don’t want something like this keeping you up at night as it’s doing an automated cleaning cycle. so what you can actually do is put it into sleep mode and from the time you enter sleep mode it’ll actually go inactive for eight hours. And that’s repeatable so every 24 hours it’ll stop working for that eight hours from when you initially set it. So you only have to set at once and it’s pretty much never gonna wake you up in the middle of night.

Now I did mention wait time earlier wait time is basically the time between when your cat leaves the globe, to when the cycle actually starts. and basically you can change that time you can either do 3, 7 or 15 minutes the reason why you might want a longer wait time is because some litter actually takes longer to clump and if it’s not clumping properly you don’t give it enough time this product is not gonna be quite as effective. so you can actually change that on the fly with one of these buttons. now obviously cats have pretty good night vision in fact it’s much better than our own but with age, some cats revision starts to deteriorate and for that reason they’ve actually built in a nightlight inside of the glove. it’s all you know darkness activated so as soon as the lights go out, it automatically pops on this blue light and unfortunately it is not RGB.

How to clean the Litter Robot III Open Air Globe?

Now the manual doesn’t say you have to regularly replace the litter, it’s pretty sanitary on its own but in the event that you wanted to clean the inside of the actual globe you would have to get that litter out somehow so there is an empty button once you press that the globe starts to rotate in the opposite direction as the cleaning cycle and that essentially dumps everything. All the poop, the pee, and the litter get funneled into the bottom tray. At that point, you can start tearing this thing apart and prepare it for cleaning starting with the bonnet. There’s a plastic tab on either side you push that inward pops off very easily and the globe itself you pretty much just lift it straight off of the base. The globe itself which is gonna be obviously the dirtiest part of this whole product is completely circuit and electric free. There’s no wiring or any sort of electronic components inside of it, which means you can pretty much blast it with a power hose or something like that to get it super clean. You can use soap it’s totally fine with that as long as it’s a mild soap and nothing too toxic for your cats obviously. Then you pretty much let it dry the rubber itself dries nearly instantly which is a nice bonus, and then you put it back together fill it back with litter and you’re ready to go once again. So there you go those are the basics I’m sure you’ve learned more about litter boxes in the last five minutes than you have in your entire life, but with that said I think it’s time to bring this guy home we have to introduce it to my cats for the very first time and get the reaction.

How To Introduce This Device To My Cat?

We can’t do a proper full letterbox review without the cat’s opinions, so on that note let’s go home. All right so we are now into the following morning here at the bit wid home base. It’s been about 12 hours since we formally introduced our cats to the litter robot and the way we did that was we tried to make it as easy of a transition as possible. For starters, we placed the unit in the exact same spot as their old litter box just to reinforce the idea that this is the area where you go to the bathroom. and then after we filled up the litter bed with some fresh litter we actually took a scoop of their old used litter, I Know it sounds kind of gross, but we sprinkled that on the very top just to familiarize them with the scent so when they stick their head in there and they sniff around they go oh this is familiar, I pooped here before. Then to top it all off we took a bottle of sprayable catnip and just lightly sprayed the litter mat that goes right in front of the globe that was just to introduce them to a familiar pleasant scent that is supposed to relax them and just keep them from being too intimidated by this large foreign object. Now another pro tip we found the manual was to lead the actual unit powered off for the first couple of days just to get the cats used to use it as a regular litter box before you introduce the sounds and movements that the product makes during its cleaning cycle.

Surprisingly within the first hour or so our boy cat started investigating he got curious as cats usually do and he actually approached the globe. he crawled inside of it it took him a while to get inside fully because I think he was scoping out the the rubber surface it’s a little bit flimsy so he was probably trying to figure out whether or not it was a stable surface for him to actually stand on. But once he jumped in he took a little leak and he jumped out and it was totally fine. I still have yet to witness the girl cat go inside and use the litter robot, but that’s not to say she didn’t contribute to any of the clumps I found this morning. At any rate I’m sure she’ll see that her brother is using it just fine and will eventually follow suit. So I’m not too concerned there.

The Conclusion

On a final note, I was a hundred percent correct in my assumption that that litter mat would not catch all the litter that our cats kick out anytime they exit the globe. There’s a bunch of litter on our laundry room floor now so we’ll probably have to get a larger mat to place in front of the unit. I should also mention that the manual specifies not to put a rug or mat underneath the actual product and that the product should be on a flat stable surface. Just to ensure that the cat sensor isn’t thrown off and it can accurately detect whenever a cat is inside Globe. So summing things up here speaking from my own experience as a cat owner in my own situation, I have two cats and they fill up my litter box twice as quickly as a single cat household. I also have a very hectic schedule I’m incredibly busy all the time and I have limited time whether I’m away or at home. So for me, Litter Robot III Open Air is a worthwhile investment, now if you only have one cat and you’re only cleaning out the litter box a few times a week then you probably don’t need this product to be honest. go ahead and spend that $500 elsewhere, but for all of us multi cat owners with incredibly busy lives who travel often mind you. this product is a total godsend and I would highly recommend you at least try one. I believe they have a 90 day money back guarantee, so zero risk if you if you want to try it doesn’t work out for you if your cats are terrified of it or something like that then you really don’t have much to lose. but that is pretty much gonna do it for now for this very odd and interesting review go ahead and feel free to leave some feedback in the comments below

Choosing the best gifts for a dog lovers is a very time-consuming task. In this guide, we have selected the best 10 amazing gadgets and gifts that you can get it for yourself and gift it to the one who is a true dog lover. Let’s consider Jenny, Jenny’s busy, how busy? really busy, the Jenny also loves her dog and while she’s busy inventing an eco-friendly Rockets rule that also teaches whales to save themselves, touching babies that happened to fall out of the sky and solving mathematical equations to avert a nuclear holocaust. I know, enough of that, The most important thing to Jenny is that Max, her dog, gets fed. How does max get fed? Feed and Go. How can you be like Jenny? you can’t! no one can! but with Feed and Go your pet will think you’re like Jenny. what is Feed and Go? you would ask, feed and go is the world’s first automatic pet feeder you can access from anywhere and it’s the only pet feeder to allow you to control your pet’s schedule from any mobile device. Well, there’s even a webcam built-in so you could see your loved one while you’re doing whatever it is that you do because let’s face it well Jenny’s utterly marvelous does that mean she loves her pet more than you? Hell No! To leave the world taken to Jenny and focus on the mat in your life show your pet some love.

Peach of Mind

Let’s be sincere, most of us miss our pets whenever we’re away from home and desire we might be there with them. Feed and Go can’t produce magic but we might come close as we’ve installed a webcam within every feeder. When it’s time for your pet to eat, or if you simply wish to call him to make sure that he’s ok then you can log into your account from any computer, smartphone or tablet. And don’t worry if you forget to establish a schedule or are delayed abruptly, simply log into your account and either select the Feed Now option or only schedule a feed for whatever time matches.

Let your Pet know!

Pets love nothing more than structure and familiarity. They ’re no different to us. Give them regular love, make sure their food is on the table and they ’ll be happy. Feed and Go has gone one stage further. Once you get your puppy delivered and set it up, you’ll see that you might play your voice into the feeder, so that whenever your pet has to be fedup, or whenever you only wish to call him over to make sure that he’s ok, it’ll be you he hears. You can record a message up to 6 seconds long and should you’re happy, simply do it again!

Schedule from Anywhere!

Whenever we designed Feed and Go, we did it because we’ve pets ourself and may’t always be around in the times they need to eat. We understood it was really significant that our pets got fed on time and so we did something about it. Feed and Go gives you options to prepare numerous regular feeding schedules that will only run continuously till you alter them , or, if you prefer, you may also select feeds only for certain times and days. Possibly the most flexible thing about Go and Grant is that you might even produce feeding schedules or just set a one off feed in any computer, smartphone or tablet computer.

Dry and Wet Food!

Throughout our research we found that there were a few pet feeders around that worked for dry food but nothing to get wet food. One challenge was to create a motor strong enough to turn the tray that holds the food and the other was keeping the food clean. We designed Feed and Go to ensure whenever the top is closed, only one compartment is on display. How long rancid food remains fresh food entirely depends upon the type of food and how hot it’s where you live but we don’t urge you leave wet food stored for more than twenty-four hours.

PetSafe Stay And Play Wireless Dog Fence Installation And Training Guide

PetSafe Stay And Play Wireless Dog Fence Installation And Training Guide

Freedom Along With The Safety

Everyone wants to let their dog enjoy the outdoors, but you also want to keep them safe. The PetSafe stay and play wireless fence lets you create up to three-quarters of an acre area that is safe for your pet to enjoy at home or away. This guide will walk you through how to set the PetSafe stay and play wireless pet system up, so that your yard can become their playground and you’ll have more peace of mind. This electric wireless dog fence system works for pets weighing at least 5 pounds, but it’s great for small and large dogs. It works by transmitting a radio signal that creates a circular containment area. Your pet wears a receiver collar that signals him if he tries to leave the boundary area. Once trained, your pet can roam freely and safely in the containment area.

We recommend going through our choosing the right collar for your pet guide before proceeding.

To set your system up, choose the location for your transmitter, consider your yard and the area you want your dog to be able to enjoy. Tthe transmitter is in the center of the area, place the transmitter at least 2 to 4 feet off the floor and in an area that is dry and well-ventilated, You may wish to mount the transmitter on the wall using the mounting template on the back of the transmitter. it can transmit through walls but keep it away from large metal objects like the furnace or refrigerator since these can interfere with the signal it sends out.

The unit should be at least 3 feet away from large metal objects to get the maximum coverage area for your pet, but also near a standard wall outlet remember not to place anything on top of the transmitter switch. The unit to low if you want the area for your pet to be less than 45 feet and high if you want it to be greater than 45 feet. The receiver collar that your pet wears is rechargeable. it’s a quick charge unit and will have a full charge within about two hours, this will last two to three weeks depending on how many times your dog challenges the boundary. Fully charge the unit before you begin testing your system.

Setting up The PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence

The receiver collar comes with long and short contact points. If your pet has longer fur use the longer contact points install these using the wrench provided to turn the receiver collar on. Press and hold the mode button for five seconds, the indicator light will turn on, you will press the same button to turn the collar off with the collar on hold the test light tool provided on the probes.

Now walk out into your yard the caller will flash and beep as you reach the boundary area and the light on the test flight tool will illuminate. You can use two people to make this process easier by having one person in the yard with the caller checking the boundary and one person at the transmitter adjusting the zone. You can adjust the boundary size up or down to make the area larger or smaller. Have one person stand with the caller and test tool, at the desired boundary line have the other person at the transmitter set the boundary control to 8 and slowly turn the dial down until the caller beeps communicate with each other. When the caller beeps if the boundary area isn’t the size you want or falls outside your property area adjust it to fit your needs once you have the boundary area size you want place flags along the boundary line.

How to set up hte petSafe Electric Wireless Dog Collar - Setting up the boundary

You will use these flags to help train your pet to the stay in play system. Getting the right fit of the collar is critical for your pet’s safety make sure the collar is snug and the contact points are touching your dog’s skin but never pull the collar putting pressure on the probes against your pet’s neck. Here are some important things to know about the receiver collar, make sure you remove the collar from your pet at night. The caller should not be worn more than 12 hours per day, clean the collar probes regularly to get the best battery life. Recharge the unit only when it begins to blink red indicating less than 20% battery life, the unit will blink yellow at 60 to 20% battery life and green when it is full up to 60% pay attention to the light colors to know when your unit needs recharging. When charging, the light will be solid red and will change to solid green when it is fully charged and ready to go. When you get ready to start training your pet you should begin with the collar on the lowest correction setting and increase it only one level at a time until you find the right level.

The PetSafe stay and play wireless fence collar has five levels of Correction and a tone only setting the number of times the collar light flashes red indicates the correction level. The level you use will depend on your pet and their temperament, you can use your own collar with the receiver it must be three-quarters of an inch and nonmetallic. To do this, remove the original collar and thread the new color through the loops never attach a leash to the D-ring of your own collar as this will put pressure on the contact points against your pet’s neck. If you have more than one pet and need additional receiver collars these are available for purchase on Amazon and many pet specialty retail stores. Another great feature of this system is its power loss alarm, this is to alert you in the event your power goes out or the unit is accidentally unplugged. It will remind you to bring your pet inside until power is restored to turn the power loss alarm off. When it activates you can either unplug the power adapter from the transmitter or press the alarm disabled button and hold it for five seconds once you have charged your receiver collar fully and your system is set up as you would like it. You’re ready to start training your pet.

Training Your Dog – The Most Important Part

Creating a safe area for your pet to enjoy the outdoors is an important part of pet ownership. The PetSafe stay and play wireless fence is designed to help you create a safe area for your pet to enjoy the outdoors whether you’re at home or away. Training your pet to understand their containment area is an important part of setting up your system this guide is designed to walk you through how to train your pet. It’s very important that you be really consistent in your training but also make it fun and be patient with your pet you don’t want them to be stressed at all through the training process. It’s very important to read your training an operating guide before you get started this way you’ll know everything that’s involved.

First Day of Training

Now let’s get started, let’s say your pet has long fur so we’re using the longer contact points on her collar. It’s really important that when you’re training your pet you do it in about 10 or 15-minute increments because shorter sessions are better than longer sessions for your pets retention and the overall training. Now awarding your pet with a treat is always a best to train them quickly, so spend some time playing and have fun with it. At any time during your training if your dog starts to show signs of stress such as their ears are laid back or they’re tucking their tail take a break, consider adding more days to the training or having a few more sessions. Make sure to include lots of toys and treats and playtime so that it’s more fun for your pet. We call the area of your yard the pet area and the end of the containment area the boundary zone, so you’ll hear us use these terms throughout this guide. At this point your system should already be completely set up you should have your boundary flags marking the edge of your containment are. You’ll want to set your flags up about every 10 feet. Now when you start your training you want to begin with your receiver collar set to level 1 which is the tone only mode, so press the button in the center of your receiver collar and the light will flash once letting you know it’s on level one.

PetSafe Dog Colar - Training Guide

Now you’ll want to put a separate collar and leash on your pet for this part of the training, then spend some time walking around in the containment area with your pet on the leash and make it fun. With full control of your pet on a leash walk to the flag as your pet enters the static correction zone the receiver collar will begin to allow your pet to stay in a static correction zone for about two seconds, then gently pulling back into the pet area. Repeat this process until your dog resists going near the flag, shoot master about three to four flags per session. On day one just do about three training sessions ten to fifteen minutes each.Immediately praise and offer your pet a treat.

Day 2 to 4 Of Dog Training

On training days 2 through 4, you’ll want to advance your receiver collar to level two, this is the level that has tone and the lowest level of static correction. Now all dogs are different and some need a lower level of correction and others need higher. So begin on level two and test this with your dog, advance one level at a time until you see your pet recognize the static correction. When you see it that’s the level you want to be on. As on day one with full control of your pet on a leash walk to the flag as your pet enters the static correction zone the receiver collar will begin to be followed by a static correction if your pet does not respond to the static correction confirm that the receiver collar is fitting properly. If the receiver collar is fitting properly but your pet didn’t respond to the static correction increase it by one level. When you see your pet get the static correction lead them gently back into the pet area. Immediately praise and offer your pet a treat. Repeat this process at the same boundary flag until your pet resists going into the static correction zone.

Day 5 to 8 Of Dog Training

Now on days 5 through 8 of your training you want to start introducing some distractions so that your pet understands that they’re supposed to say within the boundary area regardless of what distractions happen outside of that area. So with your pet on a leash you’ll want to start introducing some distractions you can do this through throwing a toy or a treat outside the boundary area, now if your pet avoids the distraction you want to give them praise and say good dog. Now if your dog does go for the distractions that’s okay simply let them go for the distraction let them get the static correction and then lead them back into the safe area and give them praise. Keep doing this with the distraction until they avoid them altogether.

How to set up hte petSafe Electric Wireless Dog Collar

Now on days 9 through 14, you can start to let your pet enjoy the pet area off leash so spend some time in your yard just walking around you can be preoccupied with other activities and just keep a close eye on your pet the whole time as long as they’re staying in the boundary zone offer them lots of praise. After about two weeks of training your pet is ready to run but check in on your pet at regular intervals after you’re satisfied with your pet’s training, remove every other boundary flag every four days until all flags are removed. But you may want to save them for future use. Now you may have some instances once your system is all set up and which you want to take your pet outside of the pet area and that’s okay but to do this you want to just remove the receiver collar and then you have a couple of options, you can either carry your pet outside of the area or if your dog is a little big or you simply want them to walk just put a leash on them and walk them out of the containment area. Now they may be a little reluctant to leave so just make sure that you give them a command like it’s okay or let’s go. Letting them know that this is the only instance in which it’s okay for them to leave the area.

Go through this video tutoial to understand the Training process better.

One Final Note

Don’t allow your pet to wear their receiver collar for more than 12 hours in a 24-hour period of time. Just as humans can develop bed sores if they lay in one place or too long the same thing can happen to your pet if they wear a collar that contains metal and it’s too close to their skin for too long. So for your pet’s health and comfort, every day remove your receiver collar maybe at night before your pets going to bed. We know you’re going to love the freedom that the pet safe stay and play Wireless Dog Fence gives you and your pet now if you have any questions after you’ve read your manual and watch this video contact the pet safe customer care center.

Choosing the Right Collar for Your Dog

Choosing the Right Collar for Your Dog

Advantages of Using The Choke Collars

Today, I think we should talk about what collars you can use for your dog and the benefits and the pitfalls of other of certain collars. The main thing I want you to think about is your dog safety when you choose a collar and the collar that I mainly use on my dog is what’s called the choke chain or a choke type collar, the reason I use this is because it’s very hard for the dog to slip out of it and on accident run away from you or escape from you there are many different options for these type of collars but I want you to think about the best one for your dog is going to be one that’s welded shut. That means each link would be welded together as well as the rings on the end a lot of the cheaper chinese-made ones don’t have that so if you give a strong correction on your dog your dog gives a very strong pull. There is a likelihood that those links will come apart or that the ring will split and that you’ll lose your dog.

As I was talking about the choke chain this is a herm Sprenger or German made choke chain it’s basically a series of links of chain with two rings on the end every one of these links is welded shut as well as the ring at the end everything is welded shut so it’s a very very strong collar that won’t come undone if your dog pulls on it the way to use these is really simple you hold one ring and drop the entire length of chain through the other ring. It’s put on your dog to shape a P so that is if you keep your dog on your left-hand side you’d slip the P over his neck. The reason for that is so that when we correct the dog here the collar releases itself again so it corrects cinches the dog. Dog can’t get out can’t hurt himself can’t get away and I release and the chain releases upon itself if it’s done the other way here that the correction comes up and now when you go to release the chain can’t release itself, so it stays stuck on the dog and keeps pressure on his neck. So easy to remember this makes a P when it faces your dog and goes on this way so when I look at my dog this is making a P and I put the P straight onto my dog’s neck. The length of the collar is going to be an important choice for you and the way to determine that is making sure it fits over his head comfortably.

Advantages of Using The Martingale Collar

When it’s over the dog’s neck you should still be able to get your hand underneath the collar and when you pull on this chain you should be able to pull about three to four links out that’s also going to depend upon the size of the link, so if you’re using a very big fur saver you’ll pull less links out than if you use a really small. Just a chain link this first saver collar has smaller links so you’ll end up pulling more out than a large link fur saver and also a regular chain link you’ll pull a lot more links up but think about it as being just maybe like three maybe four inches Maxima you should pull out. You should not have this chain coming out to here that would be too big so the martingale collar which is the one that I would recommend most, although, I use the choke chain I recommend the martingale most because it’s a very easy collar to use and it’s very safe for your dog.

The martingale has the distinct advantage that no matter how hard you pull on it it does not choke your dog it will only cinch or contract to a certain distance. So if that’s the size of your dog’s neck it will not get any smaller the martingale allows you to adjust the collar to a comfortable width. I’m going to show you how to do that and then use that size on your dog so that you still get the contraction so your dog won’t pull out of the collar but your dog will not be able to choke himself you leave them alone or anything like that. I don’t recommend leaving collars on your dogs when you leave them alone with the exception of maybe a name tag collar or something like that because there are some inherent risk especially with smaller dogs that your dog could end up choking themselves. The martingale collar this is the type that does not have a buckle a snap buckle to open closed we could just put around your dog’s neck and snap it this has an adjustable strap so you can make it as tight or as loose as you like the advantage with this one is remember the buckle is going to be the weakest link in the chain and if that buckle breaks or comes undone you lose your dog and that’s an important aspect to remember.

The Flat Collars

When you’re using a collar the colors that protect your dog not necessarily to control or to train him it’s there to protect him from getting away from you, so when I take the martingale collar I’m going to see if this is approximately the right size. I put it over my dog’s neck and that happens to be the right size because if you contract then you can see that now the dog can’t pull out. it’s big enough where the neck portion of his head where it meets his skull is contracted so it doesn’t allow him to pull out of it but yet it allows him a lot of loose play. it’s a comfortable collar I can get both my fingers in here and that’s an important aspect that this collar should be loose enough. I can get my fingers in behind the collar and pull but it can’t just flop over his neck so here you’d see would be a bit of work get over his neck. I’d have to undo this strap a little bit and then pull it out over his neck the flat collar is probably the most commonly used collar you’ll see them. They come decorated they have straps and buckles and decorations on them some people put their names on flat cut their dog’s names on flat collars reward information. All in all, it’s a great collar for the dog but it does not give you any chance to protect your dog in the event that they try to get away from you.

Flat collars also put an immense amount of pressure in your dog’s neck if you’re trying to correct them, that means this flat part of color is constantly pushing against the dog’s neck without giving them any chance for correction or guidance. As to what they should be doing this is a really good quality flat collar. it is a buckle type collar so that we can slip it over our dog’s neck and just buckle it as opposed to just guiding it over our dog’s act. So when I put this on my dog’s neck here you’ll see I can put it there and I put the buckle on and now I’m controlling my dog, the problem with the flat collar is if it’s loose enough to kind of ride comfortably on my dog’s neck it’s also loose enough to just pull off my dog. So if my dog is on a leash here and he starts to pull backwards he’ll pull completely out of this collar, so now it’s time to color this small it’s consistently constricting on dog’s neck and also will start to wear the fur down and flatten the fur on your dog’s neck which a lot of people don’t like because it doesn’t look good. The flat color might be a good choice for some things if you wanted to have the name on there and keep it loose and not worry about it but it’s not a good tool for training your dog or controlling your dog.

The Benefits of Using The Pinch / Prong Dog Collars

In the event of safety, the pinch collar is probably one of the most misunderstood tools in dog training but I want to talk to you about the advantages of a pinch collar and how to fit it properly to your dog. The pinch dog collar is also called a prong Collar or spike collar and a bunch of other things. The reason for that is because these the edges of the wire collar here pinch into your dog’s neck when we’re delivering a correction when we’re not delivering a correction it rests very comfortably on your dog’s neck. So the pinch collar is used properly by opening it and closing it by undoing one prong which would be your choice which one you want to do and it’s also advantageous to use different prongs to open and close at different times. If not you end up bending and tweaking one prong completely out of shape and maligned so when I use the collar it goes up very very high on the dog’s neck it sits right under the ears and it sits very snug on the dog’s neck so when it’s on the dog’s neck you’ll see that it sits very high it doesn’t move on its own. It sits very still and it gives me the option to use it one as a martingale which would contract the links as I go or secondly to use what we call the dead ring and the dead ring is actually using both rings which just simply gives it like a flat collar type correction. All the work you’ll see me do will be with a martingale type correction that means it’ll be on the live ring so that it gives the dog a correction and a release and a correction and a release and the dog feels the cinching of the collar as a correction.

As opposed to just the prongs coming in on the dog as a correction so as you see from the back of the dog’s neck where I have a choke chain on the dog and the pinch collar and I use them together so I use the collars this way because the pinch call especially if using a smaller one has a likelihood that it might break apart and if it does break apart you still have the backup of your fur saver or your choke chain to control the dog. If you’re doing any kind of dog training where you’re worried about the dog running away or breaking or getting it to the street or anything like that I want to talk again about the size of the pinch collar that I use and that is the smallest one available. This is the two and a quarter millimeter pinch and I don’t use the bigger ones because one they don’t work as well – they’re very very big and very heavy on the dog’s neck this is very unobtrusive dog hardly notice on ways maybe an ounce or two and and when they correct when this pinch comes in it gives them a stronger correction for less work and less pain on the dog, so when this is on him you’ll see he’s actually really distracted, Now with a little bit of a tug on the pinch he’ll start to comply and sit these British slip fleas are probably one of the best tools for use on dogs because they control the dog completely.

They’re safe, they’re easy, they’re inexpensive, and they work so it’s a basic slip lead that has a ring at the end and it makes a noose so when we put it on the dog we put over the dog’s head and use this little leather stopper so that if we let the dog run freely he can’t back out of this leash at all. He’ll stay on this leash the whole time they come in a bunch of different lengths and they completely control the dog they’re safe they come to double-stitched this is by a company called Mendota. They make very good products all made in America and it controls the dog very easily it’s light you could let your dog run off leash if you wanted to still control them let them come back and have complete control and safety over your dog. When you use these leads the important thing is once you put them on your dog that and you’ll see there are my shelter videos once I put it on I immediately put the stopper down because if you don’t the dogs natural running will allow the dog to just back out of that leash and that’s the most dangerous part once the dog comes out of the leash. So put it over your dog’s head as soon as you put it over the dog’s head put it here it’s a real easy way to walk your dog control your dog. It doesn’t give you the option to put a tag on but I guess you could clip the tag onto this ring here but it’s a really easy way to just slip your dog into a leash and take off and start on your walk or your run or your hike or whatever you’re going. So that’s the basic slip lead I love these I think they’re really useful and I highly recommend using them if you’re not gonna use anything else
